How accurate is the Live Occupancy feature?

Answer

Live Occupancy gives you a close-to-real-time view of how full each library location is, broken down by space such as the North Reading Room, Central Reading Room, Health Sciences Library, Music Library, and 3rd Floor. Each location shows a percent full, the number of seats available, and a sync timestamp so you can tell when the data was last updated.

The chart compares the current count (the "Now" dot) to a typical-traffic line for that day and hour, calculated from past weeks of data. The "Now" dot always reflects the actual count from the sensors, so it stays accurate within about a minute. The typical line is only an average from past weeks and may not match today exactly, especially during finals week, holidays, special events, or unusual weather. A label such as "Busier than usual right now" appears when the current count is meaningfully above or below that typical baseline.
