Q. Can I check out books from the library?

Answer

While our physical library collections remain closed to in-person browsing, library staff will retrieve materials requested by patrons for pickup at either the North Reading Room of Melville Library, the Health Sciences Library, or Southampton.

Instructions for requesting physical materials from our circulating collections:

  • Sign in to your personal account through the Libraries' Search Catalog (see image below).

  • Search for the materials you’d like to request.

  • Once you click on an item’s location, (i.e. “Available at Main Library Stacks”), click on Request For Pickup and then Send Request.

  • Once your items are ready, you will receive an email to pick them up at the requested location from Monday through Friday.  Pickup locations are: North Reading Room (Melville Library), Health Sciences Library, and the Southampton Library.

When picking up your materials, please remember to bring your SBU ID and a mask. Please contact circulation@stonybrook.edu if you have any questions.

Please do not use disinfectants or cleaning products on books. These types of products can damage library materials. All returned library materials have been quarantined before being loaned to another patron. Thank you for helping us take care of our book collections.
